The Fall Short

Purple striped top- Gap Outlet ~$20
White leatherette jacket- Boscov’s ~$25
Black wool shorts- Charlotte Russe ~$10
Patterned tights- Target ~$7
Sunglasses- Wet Seal ~$3
Bubble necklace- JEWELIQ (gift)
Grey socks- UO (gift)
Cognac boots- Rack Room Shoes ~$20 (on sale)
TOTAL COST: $85

I have long loved the fall/winter short. As a kid I had this great red tweed suit from Hartstrings that was shorts and a blazer. All you need is a pair of great tights. These are not my summer shorts- the shorts I wear in fall and winter are heavier material, generally wool. They are too hot for summer. In this outfit, I styled them in a very casual, funky way. I would easily pair them with a more opaque pair of tights and a black blazer for a more professional look. I have a brown pair I thrifted that I plan on styling with my new navy blazer- keep your eyes peeled!

LOUD Prints

Blue floral dress- Vintage (no tag) (Goodwill) ~$4
Pink leggings- Given to me
Grey knee highs- OU (gift)
Cognac boot- Rack Room Shoes ~$20 (on sale)
Pink rose earrings- Forever 21 ~$6 (for a pack of 3)
Silver necklace- Vintage (Flea Market) ~$1
TOTAL COST: $31

This dress is another one of those “so bad it’s good” pieces. When I saw it at GW, I hoped it would fit and I got lucky. I think it might actually be home sewn, so I’m not sure how old it is. The print is Asian inspired, with geishas and cherry blossoms. While  I love dresses with long sleeves and a shorter hemline- I often wonder how to style them… Since the fall weather has (mostly) taken over here in the North, I’ll be wearing this style of dresses with tights and leggings.
The print is so loud and so memorable that this dress is a piece I wear sparingly. It’s always bittersweet when I acquire pieces this like. I love loud pieces, stand out pieces. Of course I know that I impose these “fashion rules” upon myself, but quite frankly, I have so many other pieces I love to wear that wearing this dress on repeat isn’t smart regardless of print.

The Polka-Dot Sweater

-->

Green polka dot sweater- Liz & Co (via Salvation Army) ~$2.50
Black skinny corduroys- OP (via Goodwill) ~$4
Gold and pearl strand necklace- (via consignment) ~$3
White and leather belt- Vintage (from mom)
Boots- Rack Room Shoes ~$20 (on sale, they are still selling them new!)
TOTAL: $29.50

I have been waiting to wear some of the new-to-me fall/winter clothes I’ve thrifted in the past few months and the weather is finally cooperating. This sweater has been on stand-by for a chilly day for a while. Polka dot sweaters have been EVERY WHERE this year- J Crew, Old Navy, Gap and Brooks Brothers have all manufactured similar polka dot sweaters (but not for a better price). If you’ll remember, I purchased 2 other polka dot sweaters, new, from Old Navy. Why a third polka sweater, you ask? This was not only a great deal, it is also a much thicker sweater than the other two and is roomy enough for layering during the more harsh winter months.

Fall for UGGs

Tan sweater dress- Chadwicks (Salvation Army) ~$3
Navy Leggings- via Gabriel Brothers ~$4
Red and white scarf- Vintage (from mom)
Chestnut boots- UGG (gift, retails for $155)
TOTAL COST: $7

I may have jumped the gun a little bit on wearing a sweater dress but it was cool in the morning and my church is notoriously chilly (to me). Also, this is the first time of the season that I’m wearing my UGG boots. I hated UGGs for a long time in high school, and I realized it was because I had never tried them and didn’t own a pair. “FUGGs” are NOT equivalent, regardless of the price. If you are interested in a boot of this style, go for the UGG. I have had mine for at least 4-5 years and they are in great condition. I treat them every year with water proofing spray and avoid wearing them when it’s raining (if possible). They are still fluffy inside and so cozy. As a person who is notoriously cold, they are perfect for me. I realize that for a blog that emphasizes good deals, UGGs seem like a bag choice. However, this is simply an item your are not going to come across in a thrift store. I have NEVER seen a pair in any color or size. I HAVE seen them in stores like Marshall’s or TJ Maxx at reduced prices. Another piece of fall weather wear that I love are leggings. Leggings in all colors and styles. I cannot wait to break out the rest of my leggings and boots.
