Versatility

 

           

           I’m always looking for more ways to wear a piece. The more flexible it is, the more value it has in my wardrobe. I will rarely repeat an outfit exactly because I love remixing.  A top that “only looks good” with one skirt is a waste of very precious real estate, i.e. my CLOSET. Therefore, when I go shopping, I cannot simply consider liking or attraction to the piece. If I can’t image 3+ ways to wear a piece, it’s a much harder sell. 

            Consider this top. I have a multitude of secretary blouses so I don’t want to repeat the same look every time I decide to wear one. I have shown this style of blouse worn with skirts, pants and now under a jumper. The feel of the look is also changed by tying the blouse or leaving it loose. If it were warmer, I would even consider rolling the sleeves for a different look.

Still Chic

            Some pieces in my wardrobe have managed to stick around for years, despite not focusing on quality. These wide leg trousers from H&M were purchased as far back as 9^th grade! That’s right, I’ve had this pair of pants for just about 10 years. Not only do they still fit, but they’re still chic. There are classic pieces all women should own, and if you purchase smartly, they’ll be with your for years to come. I paired this wardrobe staple with one of newest (and most thrifty) finds, this super soft vintage sweater from the Junior League- snagged for just a quarter. The preppy result is professional without being unapproachable.

            You already know how much I love this sweater so I’ll skip it and go right to this moustache clutch. Target calls it a “pencil case”- who knows. Regardless, it is absolutely excellent. They’ve been making them in different prints and colors for over a year now. They retail for about $20. I’ve used it as a wallet and a clutch. Are all women pouch lovers or just me? It’s such a selling point. This clutch has so many different compartments it’s great. It also has card holders inside. Just go buy one. Or two.

The End of Summer

            I have been waiting to wear this dress since I got it! It’s a dress I want to wear through multiple seasons, so I hurried to style it for one of the last warm days in September. I rolled up the long sleeves and belted it- still rocking bare legs, my friends! Once it’s colder, the sleeves will come down and I’ll be wearing leggings and a great pair of boots.

What do you all think of my new bag? A friend recently mistook it for a Coach bag! Precious, my dear, but I’d be afraid to own one of those! This is a $30 leatherette bag from Target that I featured in my Weekend Watch post. Of course, I styled this look using my beloved black gladiator sandals. Summer is now officially over, so I only have a little bit more time with these lovely sandals.

Flexing my Fashion Muscles

            Does anyone remember Jimmyz? It was some sub-company of Aeropastale… (Trying to compete with A&F?) Anyway, I’ve been holding onto this polo since HIGH SCHOOL. I wish it didn’t have that “factory distressing” that was so popular during that time, but eh- it’s survived this long. This khaki skirt is a staple piece and I can’t wait to mix, and remix it through all seasons. As you can see, it was quite warm on this day (despite wearing a sweater dress just the day before). This crazy fall weather is certainly flexing the muscles of my wardrobe. Maybe I’ll be wearing my snow suit tomorrow- Who knows!

            I’m so proud of this outfit- it’s all thrifted, except the belt. All the pieces are quality brands and I don’t have to tell you how expensive this outfit would be if I’d purchased them all new. I love mixing colors, textures and patterns. I cannot wait to find new ways to mix this vest into my wardrobe.
